Longevity Stick Helps
Prolong Longevity Through Light Exercise
Developed
less than 30 years ago, exercising
with the help of a longevity stick, was developed by a Vietnamese
citizen following years in a Communist prison at the end of that
country’s civil war. While in prison for about five years,
exercise became a major part of Mai Bac Dau developed low intensity
exercises using a rod to help with balance as well as to prevent
illness and help maintain better health.
While
developing his 12-step program he drew
on the experiences learned from his physician father and the cures
handed down over several generation concerning healing. Combining his
knowledge of eastern and western medicine he combines exercising with
the longevity stick with a vitality adjustment to help promote better
health as well as better physical movement capabilities.
Dau’s belief that longer life is possible through proper
nutrition and exercise is supplemented by the knowledge of the years in
prison during which he exercised with the longevity stick, helping to
better his balance, stamina, flexibility, mental focus and breathing.
The exercises are performed in a standing position and only use one
piece of low-tech exercise equipment, a stick. The longevity stick is
typically a one-inch diameter dowel rod approximately one or two inches
longer than the person is tall. Low Impact Exercise Safe For Most
Elderly The longevity stick is used to help maintain balance throughout
the exercise routine and is especially beneficial for elderly persons
as they can receive the benefit of exercising without the high impact
of many exercises. This reduces the risk of injuries while performing
movements to help with circulation as well as breathing techniques.
Exercising with a longevity stick is widely practiced through Vietnam
as well as many other Asian countries and recently begun to spread to
the United States, Canada, France and Australia. Initially, others were
instructed by Dau in the 12 steps of the exercise regimen as they
branched out an began to teach others. Many groups meet weekly or in
many cases two or three times each week to exercise with the longevity
stick.
The name of the exercise device used was given due to the belief
that by performing the exercise regularly can help extend the longevity
of its practitioners. Practicing with the longevity stick and
participating in vitality adjustments can provide the body with the
exercise and healthy eating habits the promote a healthier, longer
life. Working with the longevity stick is more than simply an exercise
program, rather it is a way of life that helps promote longer life.
